48th annual Independence Valley Chicken Races coming June 30

“Run like you’re fried chicken tomorrow.”

That’s the tagline for the 48th annual Independence Valley Community Hall Chicken Races in Rochester.

The event is set for Sunday, June 30.

Lunch begins at noon with chicken races commencing at 2 p.m.

The event will feature music by Chris Guenther and raffle prizes from dozens of local businesses.

A cheeseburger and hot dog lunch will be offered for $10.

During the chicken races, judges time how quickly contestants, with the help of soft thrown items such as socks and hats, can get their chicken to run out of a circle. No chickens are harmed. Proceeds from the annual event help fund maintenance of the Independence Valley Community Hall.

The community hall is located at 148 Nelson Road, Rochester.
