Looking for a fun, local date night ahead of Valentine’s Day?

Starting this Friday, Jan. 30, and running every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Feb. 15, actors at Centralia’s Evergreen Playhouse will be performing Luigi Jannuzzi’s romantic comedy “A Crazy Little Café Called Love.”

The play is directed by Janelle Lunzman and features multiple characters’ stories woven into a crazy and chaotic day at the Love Café.

“Comedy! Romance! A fast-paced day. All served up in a crazy little café,” Evergreen Playhouse’s website states. “Linda has a blind date, Bob is casting a movie, the waitress likes the monk, old Mr. Philips wants a séance and the bride’s dad is livid! Throw in a frantic bride, her theatrical mother, a dancing nun and an apologetic groom, and you have a comic hit! And all happening one crazy day in the one-set Love Café.”

The play’s cast list includes:

  • Dan Overton as Bob
  • Jessi Teehee as the waitress
  • Lily Kealoha as the monk
  • Jeff Rÿser as Mr. Phillips
  • Christine Goode as the nun
  • Kelsi Mack as the bride
  • Seth MacNeely as the father of the bride
  • Michelle Koenen as the mother of the bride
  • Judah MacNeely as the groom
  • Dodi Forgione as Eveline
  • Alex Greene as Linda
  • Kolten Tomlin as Larry
  • Becki Perez as Betty
  • Tanner Huntting as Bruce
  • Andrea Weston-Smart as Sidney
  • Matthew Michael as Leslie

“So often when we think about love, we think of romantic love, and a show that runs during the Valentine’s weekend is certainly reinforcing that belief. But there are so many other types of love that are just as important: familial love, friend love, community love, agape love. While these are often relegated to the back of our consciousness they make up the fabric of our lives in a quiet way,” Lunzman said in the program’s director’s note. “The show’s author, Januzzi, did great service to the theme of love by including all these types of love and showing not just their existence, but their critical value to our lives. One of my favorite relationships in this show is between the waitress and Mr. Philips that has clearly developed over time and is born out of respect and familiarity.”

In an email to The Chronicle, Lunzman added, “I am so proud of the hard work that the entire cast and crew has put into making this show a success. Please come and enjoy this delightful comedy and support local theater in the process.”

Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays, Jan. 30, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13, and Saturdays, Jan. 31, Feb. 7 and Feb. 14. Sunday performances on Feb. 1, Feb. 8 and Feb. 15 begin at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $17 for adults and $14 for students and seniors.
