Fourth-grade students from Napavine Elementary School recently stepped out of the classroom and into the heart of Washington state government during a visit to the Capitol with Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Chehalis.
The visit provided the Napavine Tigers with a firsthand look at the legislative process and an opportunity to engage directly with their elected representative, a news release from Abbarno stated.
"Welcoming these fourth-grade Tigers from Napavine Elementary School to the Capitol was a wonderful experience," said Abbarno, House Republican Caucus chair. "Seeing them learn about government, ask great questions and experience the Capitol firsthand reminds me why civic education matters. Opportunities like this help bring classroom lessons on government and civics to life."
The Napavine School District is the home of the Tigers and emphasizes academic opportunities that extend beyond the traditional classroom. The trip to the Capitol supports the district's commitment to fostering civic awareness and enriching students' learning environment, according to the release.
"I truly enjoyed spending time with the Napavine students and seeing their enthusiasm for learning about what happens under the dome in Olympia," Abbarno said. "Their curiosity and creative questions were impressive. I hope this experience encourages them to stay engaged and involved in their community as they grow into future leaders."
