The Adna baseball team won its first-round matchup against River View 3-0 in Clarkston on Saturday, but lost its state quarterfinal 5-1 against Asotin.

Cameron Nakano pitched five shutout innings and struck out seven in the win, while Jack Pennington and Danner Hoinowski combined to pitch the final two innings.

Aiden Percival came through with a two-run single to give the Pirates the lead in the fifth, and Beau Miller brought home the third in the sixth with a sacrifice fly. Hoinowski and Luke Mohney finished with two hits apiece.

“Really good clutch hitting and effort from the team,” Adna coach Jake Overbay said. “Cameron threw a great five innings, Jack came in and did well, and Danner shut the door.”

In the quarterfinal, Asotin took the lead early with two in the first. Adna was able to get one run back in the third on a wild pitch, but Asotin got the run back in the bottom half and added two more later to push the lead to four.

“The boys competed extremely well,” Overbay said. “It was a great season and a great effort by the Adna boys. Asotin just found a way to take us out.”
