Adna voters face a decision Tuesday on whether it will allow the Adna School District to replace its expiring levy for school programs and operations.

A simple majority of 50% plus one is needed to pass the levy, known as Proposition No. 1.

“The Board of Directors of Adna School District No. 206 adopted Resolution No. 24-25-16, concerning a proposition supporting educational programs not funded by the state,” the measure reads.

According to an explanatory statement, Proposition No. 1 would “replace an expiring levy for school programs and operations by levying $1,341,772 for collection in 2027, $1,408,861 for collection in 2028, $1,553,269 for collection in 2029, and $1,630,932 for collection in 2030.”

If approved, the “district would use these funds to pay for school operations and educational programs not fully funded by the state, including but not limited to: course/program options; class size reduction; classroom technology; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education; teaching support; facilities maintenance; extra-curricular activities, including athletics and robotics; and an on-site school nurse,” the statement reads.

The district estimates a tax rate of $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value for each of the aforementioned collection years.

According to the statement, “a property tax exemption may be available to certain homeowners, including those who are 61 years or older or disabled, and who meet low-income requirements.”
