Alaska Airlines grounded all flights Thursday afternoon amid an information technology outage.
The airline said Thursday around 4:20 p.m. that it was “experiencing an IT outage affecting operations,” and that “a temporary ground stop is in place.”
That means Alaska's planes won't take off from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and other airfields. Alaska advised any travelers with flights booked Thursday to check flight status before heading to the airport. As of Thursday evening, Alaska had not provided an estimate for when the outage would be resolved.
The issue started around 3:30 p.m. due to a failure at our primary data center," an Alaska Airlines statement said.

"The IT outage has impacted several of our key systems that enable us to run various operations, necessitating the implementation of the ground stop to keep our aircraft in position," the statement said. "The safety of our flights was never compromised.
The airline is offering flexible travel options for impacted travelers to change or cancel their flight.
In July, Alaska experienced an IT outage that grounded flights for roughly three hours. The outage occurred after a piece of hardware at one of Alaska’s data centers unexpectedly failed.
That outage led to more than 200 flight cancellations and affected the travel plans of 15,600 people, Alaska said shortly after the incident.
