The Independence Valley Community Hall in Rochester will be hosting the 49th annual Chicken Races on Sunday, June 29, with lunch starting at noon and races beginning at 2 p.m.
Burger or hot dog meals will be offered for $10 for lunch, and Chris Guenther will provide live music. Raffle tickets to win dozens of prizes from local businesses are available for $1.
During the chicken races, judges time how quickly contestants, with the help of soft thrown items such as socks and hats, can get their chicken to run out of a circle. No chickens are harmed.
Proceeds from the event help fund maintenance of the Independence Valley Community Hall. Independence Valley Community Hall is located at 148 Nelson Road in Rochester.
