The Chehalis River Basin Flood Authority is looking for applicants interested in filling one upcoming vacancy and serving a four-year term on the Chehalis Basin Board, according to a news release.

The seven-member board was formed as part of the Office of Chehalis Basin in 2016. The Chehalis Basin Board is responsible for overseeing implementation of comprehensive habitat restoration to improve the Chehalis River’s health, benefit salmon and other aquatic species all while reducing flood damage and protecting basin communities.

Board members are also responsible for making recommendations to the Washington state Department of Ecology, the governor and the Legislature regarding changes to laws, budgets or other actions needed to achieve the board’s strategy.

Those interested in applying must submit a one-page statement indicating why they are interested and what their experience is, as well as a statement of commitment to regularly attend Chehalis Basin Board meetings. Meetings typically occur on the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Applicants must demonstrate they possess one or more of the following:

• Necessary expertise to provide strong implementation oversight of the Chehalis Basin Strategy.

• Extensive knowledge of local government procedures.

• An understanding of issues relevant to restoring aquatic species and reducing flood damage.

Additionally, both applicants and board members cannot have a direct financial interest in the actions the Chehalis Basin Board is responsible for overseeing.

Statements can be emailed to Chehalis River Basin Flood Authority staff member Scott Boettcher at scottb@sbgh-partners.com no later than 5 p.m. on May 8.

The applicant selected will serve the four-year term starting on July 1.
