Two area residents were transported to separate hospitals Saturday evening after the vehicle they were driving left the roadway and struck a sign near exit 82 off Interstate 5 in Centralia.
According to a memo from the Washington State Patrol, James W. Couch, 54, was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta northbound on Interstate 5 when he attempted to take Exit 82 into Centralia. The vehicle reportedly “left the roadway to the left and struck a sign.”
The collision occurred about 6:28 p.m. Saturday, according to the state patrol. The Volkswagen Jetta was determined to be totaled.
Couch was transported to MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital with undisclosed injuries. He was reportedly wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
Passenger Karen A. Couch, 41, of Tumwater, was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with undisclosed injuries. It is unknown whether she was wearing a seatbelt.
No drugs or alcohol were said to be involved in the incident. According to the memo, James Couch was cited for “wheels off roadway.”
