A 6-month-old baby died Friday of wounds inflicted when his father shot the infant boy and his mother before turning the gun on himself.

David E. Stansbury Jr., of Vancouver, was declared dead at the scene, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said. His wife was reported in critical condition, officials said. The 6-month-old boy, whose name was not released, died Friday morning, the sheriff’s office announced Friday.

“This is difficult to even type into an update. … The 6-month-old infant succumbed to his injuries, received from this incident, early this morning,” the release said. “We were told that his mother, who remains in the hospital, and family were able to be with him.”

A woman called 911 about 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday, saying her husband had just shot her, her child and himself. Deputies arrived at the house at Northwest 152nd Street and Fourth Place near Vancouver in unincorporated Clark County and found Stansbury deceased.

The woman and baby were rushed from the Salmon Creek neighborhood to a nearby hospital. The major crimes unit in the Clark County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shootings.
