Bail was set at $100,000 Monday for a Centralia man accused of raping a woman.
Daren T. Harmon, 57, faces four counts of second-degree rape and one count of second-degree assault.
Second-degree rape is considered a Class A felony punishable by up to life in prison. Second-degree assault is considered a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Harmon was arrested on Aug. 1, roughly three weeks after a Lewis County Superior Court judge issued an arrest warrant with a bail amount of $50,000 cash or bond.
The warrant coincided with charges filed against Harmon on July 8.
Harmon made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday.
Judge Paul Strophy raised the bail amount to $100,000 cash or bond, citing significant concerns for community safety. Strophy granted the state’s request for a pretrial sexual assault protection order on behalf of the alleged victim.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Harmon on May 22 after the victim reported a series of rapes committed by Harmon.
The victim also alleged that Harmon had punched her in the face in December 2024.
The Chronicle is limiting details of the investigation to protect the victim’s identity.
Harmon is scheduled for an arraignment on Thursday.
