Bail has been set at $100,000 for a Centralia man accused of threatening to kill a woman.

The suspect, Juan E. Mejia, 41, allegedly texted the threat to a family member, according to court documents. The family member who reported the incident to law enforcement “described Juan as a heavy drug user and believed this could be a credible threat when he is high,” according to court documents.

Mejia was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail just after 1:25 a.m. on July 6, according to jail records.

He has since been charged with one count of domestic violence felony harassment and has expressed interest in the Lewis County Drug Court or Lewis County Mental Health Court programs, according to defense attorney Rachael Tiller.

Judge James Lawler found Mejia presented “a substantial threat to community safety” and granted the prosecution’s request for high bail on Thursday. Lawler also granted a no-contact order protecting the allged victim.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, July 13.
