Bail is set at $100,000 for a woman accused of breaking into a Morton residence on Saturday, standing over the occupant while he was sleeping, then damaging property at the Lewis County Jail after she was arrested.

A deputy with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Morton address sometime before 10 a.m. on Aug. 26 after the home’s occupant reported his ex-girlfriend, identified as Grace Ella Barker, 33, of Morton, was banging on the windows, according to court documents.

He later told the deputy he woke up that morning “with Barker standing over him in his bedroom … not saying anything while she stood next to his bed,” according to court documents. She allegedly stole a pack of cigarettes from the home’s occupant, but he told the deputy he got it back from her “when she returned to the property later.”

Barker was not at the property when the deputy arrived, but she reportedly “emerged from the woods” when the deputy began walking toward the back of the property.

A restraining order prohibiting Barker from going within 300 feet of the Morton address was in effect at the time of the incident, according to court documents.

Barker was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail at 10 a.m. on Aug. 26, according to jail records. She was reportedly “agitated,” “hitting the back seat and was banging her hands against the backrest of the vehicle” while she was being transported to the jail.

Later that same day, a deputy was dispatched to the Lewis County Jail for a report that Barker had “grabbed the phone receiver and struck the HomeWav system,” causing an estimated $1,000 in damage.

“When contacted, Barker declined to make any statements,” according to court documents.

She was charged Monday with one count each of domestic violence residential burglary, domestic violence violation of a court order, and second-degree malicious mischief.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 31.
