Bail set at $20,000 for Centralia man accused of threatening to kill neighbor

Bail is set at $20,000 for a man accused of threatening to kill his neighbor in Centralia on Wednesday in Centralia.

Otto Kohoutek Banick, 52, of Centralia, is accused of going onto his neighbor’s property in the 1700 block of North Tower Avenue shortly before 2:55 a.m. on Dec. 17 and threatening to kill the neighbor.

The neighbor reportedly recorded Banick coming onto his property and making the threats, according to court documents.

Officers with the Centralia Police Department responded to a trespassing complaint and reports of shouting at the address.

Banick reportedly had several pocket knives on his person at the time of his arrest.



The neighbor reported that Banick had exhibited similar behavior in the past, referring to possible substance use and mental health problems.

During his arrest, Banick allegedly accused his neighbor of committing a crime against a relative, saying “that anybody would have done what he had done.” He also blamed the incident on the unknown driver of a passing vehicle, according to court documents.

Banick was booked into the Lewis County Jail and faces one count of felony harassment, domestic violence.

His criminal history includes 22 prior warrants, as well as assault-like convictions. Arraignment was scheduled for Dec. 18.
