A man living in Onalaska faces first-degree burglary charges after he allegedly broke a window to a person’s home, entered uninvited and then punched one of its residents on the way out.

According to prosecutors, Lambert was attempting to get to his significant other, who had reportedly gone into the trailer home to hide from him.

Daniel T. Lambert, 40, of Newton, Kansas, is charged with one count each of first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief. He faces up to life in prison for the burglary charge.

Lambert made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Thursday. A judge set bail at $50,000 cash or bond. As part of his release conditions, Lambert is prohibited from contacting his girlfriend or the primary resident of the trailer he allegedly broke into.

According to a probable cause affidavit, A Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a property in Onalaska on Wednesday and spoke with the alleged victim. The woman reported that Lambert’s girlfriend had come to her trailer that evening “trying to get away from Daniel.”

The girlfriend — who also lived on the property with Lambert — reportedly told the woman Lambert was “acting crazy” and said she needed to hide from him.

At some point, Lambert allegedly arrived outside the trailer, saw his girlfriend inside and began yelling at her.

“Daniel then broke a window and then opened the door and entered the trailer,” prosecutors alleged in the affidavit.

Lambert allegedly refused to leave and pushed the female resident “several times,” according to the affidavit.

On his way out, Lambert allegedly punched the woman’s son “in the face.”

Deputies arrested Lambert and booked him into the Lewis County Jail at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday.

He’s scheduled for an arraignment on Aug. 27.
