A Winlock man was arrested Saturday in Lewis County and charged Monday in Lewis County Superior Court with third-degree assault and resisting arrest after an arrest on outstanding warrants led to the suspect throwing objects at police and barricading himself in a home.
Bail was set at $50,000 for Jose Padron Jr., 30, who was spotted by law enforcement July 5 walking along the road and was a suspect in an earlier case and known to have outstanding warrants.
Police reportedly contacted Padron, and when a deputy attempted to take control of him, he threw objects at the deputy, striking him in the face, according to the affidavit of probable cause filed in Lewis County Superior Court. Padron then ran, and a chase reportedly ensued with the defendant allegedly barricading himself in a home. Police contacted the homeowner, and permission was given for police to enter the home to arrest Padron, according to court documents.
At the time of his arrest, Padron had two active warrants and a criminal history that included multiple felony convictions and 10 cases with warrant history. Although the prosecution initially requested $25,000 bail in Padron’s preliminary hearing, bail was previously set at $50,000 in Lewis County District Court, an amount that was maintained by Superior Court Judge Joely Yeager.
Yeager cited Padron’s criminal history, which includes an active warrant out of Cowlitz County District Court for assault in the fourth degree post-conviction and an active warrant from Clark County District Court for driving with a suspended license.
The maximum punishment for third-degree assault, a class C felony, is five years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
Padron’s arraignment is scheduled for July 10.
