The W.F. West girls soccer team got back in the win column on Tuesday, topping Aberdeen 3-0 on the road.

W.F. West coach Kevin Schultz said that while they didn’t get the outcome they were hoping last Thursday, the way that his team played gave them a ton of confidence, which carried over into Tuesday.

“We saw a different level of confidence today,” Schultz said.

Reese Mishler opened the scoring by sinking a penalty kick in the 12th minute, and Ashlen Gruginski doubled the lead in the 32nd minute off an assist from Lauren Kelley.

Kelley got on the board with a goal of her own in the 77th minute off an assist from Sable Bunker.

The Bearcats had several other chances to add on, forcing eight corner kicks in the first half and adding multiple more in the second to finish in double-digits.

“I like the way we controlled the game,” Schultz said. “We created a lot of pressure and put a lot of pressure on them. Reese did really solid in the center-mid, and Ashlen did a really good job of putting their back line under pressure.”

The Bearcats (9-2-1, 5-2 2A EvCo) return home on Thursday to host W.F. West in the Chronicle Cup.

A win would also help W.F. West clinch a top-2 seed, which would mean that the Bearcats would avoid the pigtail in the district tournament.

“It’s a super important game,” Schultz said. “You know it’s going to be a playoff atmosphere. You want to be preparing yourself for a playoff game. Our goal is to keep winning and keep improving. We’re staying focused on continuing to do the things we want to do.”
