Two first-half goals were enough for W.F. West to top Shelton on Tuesday, as the Bearcats beat the Highclimbers 2-0 in their regular-season finale.
Lauren Kelley scored an unassisted goal in the 10th minute, and Kallie Hitch assisted Emily Mallonee in the 35th.
For W.F. West Kevin Schultz, the victory was a great way to end the season before turning the page.
“We wanted to keep our confidence up and get everybody minutes,” Schultz said. “We got everyone out there, and we got another shutout.”
It’s the Bearcats’ ninth shutout of the season, tying the school record that they set last fall.
They’ll have at least a couple of more chances to break that record, starting with a home district quarterfinal against R.A. Long on Saturday.
“The league down south is always good,” Schultz said. “We’re excited … Hopefully we can get (the students) to come out and be rowdy for us on a Saturday.”
