Starting league play in just its second game of the season, the W.F. West boys basketball team got its first league win and stayed perfect on the year with a 70-51 win over Rochester Tuesday night in Chehalis.

The Bearcats got another monster double-double from Soren Dalan, who scored 21 points and hauled in 18 rebounds in the win. Tyler Klatush added 14 points and nine total Bearcats scored on the night.

On the other side, the Warriors hung with the Bearcats for most of the night until a late Bearcat run in the fourth quarter sealed any hope of a comeback for the Warriors. Larenz Payne had a team-high 16 points and Jyson O’Connor added 10 points.

“The boys played hard and had no quit in them,” Warriors coach Gino McDuffy said. “The progress is real.”

The Bearcats play Shelton for their first road game on Thursday while the Warriors take on Tumwater, also on the road.
