Bearcats pick up first EvCo win in overtime

Israel Lopez Cruz played the hero for the W.F. West High School boys soccer team in the 83rd minute with a golden overtime goal to come away with a 1-0 triumph over Aberdeen in an Evergreen Conference tussle on Tuesday night at Stewart Field.

It snapped the Bearcats (2-3, 1-0 EvCo) three-match skid, all of them being 1-0 setbacks. This time, the roles were reversed. They held a stout Bobcats attack to their first time being held off the scoreboard this season.

Lopez Cruz’s goal came off a corner kick that was sent in by Alex Mathuzima. W.F. West now turns its attention to another non-league matchup on Wednesday against Evergreen (Vancouver).

“The boys played great tonight; great win to start off league play,” Bearcats head coach Allen Anderson said.
