Bearcats Pull Away From Tigers to Capture Ephrata Tourney Title

Though it was neck-and-neck for most of the game, the W.F. West baseball team prevailed over the Ephrata Spring Break Tournament host Tigers in the tourney championship, 9-4, Tuesday afternoon across the mountains.

The Bearcats got another golden performance from Logan Moore, who mashed his third home run in the last three games and pitched five innings with six strikeouts, one walk, and just two earned runs.

Leading by just two runs in the top of the fifth inning, Moore’s solo shot gave the Bearcats a three-run lead, and pumped some momentum into the Bearcat bats in the seventh inning, when W.F. West pulled away.

Ephrata responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, and after a scoreless sixth, W.F. West put four runs on the board to pull away and take home the tournament championship.

Gavin Fugate also starred at the plate, going 4 for 4 with two doubles and two singles, and Evan Stajduhar had two RBIs on a double to lead the Bearcats.

Riggs Westlund stepped in for Moore in the sixth inning and didn’t allow a run and struck out two in relief.

The Bearcats return to league play against Tumwater next Tuesday in a key 2A Evergreen Conference series.
