Bearcats Start Ephrata Tournament With Pair of Wins

Posted

After putting together its most dominant win to date in its first game at the Ephrata Spring Break Baseball Tournament against White Swan, a 27-0 victory, the W.F. West baseball team came back and beat Chelan, 8-1, to start the tournament off perfect.

In the first game against the Cougars, the Bearcats simply couldn’t be stopped. Rotation pitchers Logan Moore and Hunter Lutman each cleared the fence on home run blasts, and the Bearcats racked up 20 hits in a dominant effort, all the while a trio of Bearcat pitchers held the Cougars off the scoreboard.

Westin Potter, Waylen Land, and Grady Westlund combined to allow just two hits as White Swan never came close to scoring a run.

The second game was much different, though W.F. West showed its stuff on the mound. Lutman came back to start the second game against Chelan, and threw five innings, striking out 10, and walking five.

Lutman and reliever Jeron Martin combined to throw a seven-inning no-hitter, but after a couple of walks and fielder’s choices in the third inning, Lutman gave up an earned run for the only run given up by the Bearcat defense all day.

At the plate, Moore got another home run, his second of the day, and went 3 for 4 with three runs and an RBI.

The Bearcats will play again tomorrow at the Ephrata Spring Break Tournament in search of a tournament championship.
