Bearcats Turn Shooting Barrage into Tight Win Over Shelton

W.F. West boys soccer unloaded 15 shots on goal and was able to convert three of them to goals in a 3-2 road win over Shelton in 2A Evergreen Conference action on Friday.

“Created lots of chances, just couldn’t capitalize on our opportunities as often as we’d like,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said.

The Highclimbers struck first, scoring in the 17th minute. The Bearcats responded in the 36th minute with an equalizer from Cody Pennington, assisted by Saul Lima. Gideon Priest hit the go-ahead shot in the 43rd minute, also assisted by Lima.

“Cody had a great game; was marked tightly all night but still managed a lot of success,” Anderson said.

Damian Hernandez gave the Bearcats a comfortable cushion with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute, before Shelton answered back with the final goal of the game in the 64th minute.

“Damian had his best game of the year in the midfield filling in for injured captain Elvis Perez,” Anderson said. “Cameron Kunz was great for us defensively.”

W.F. West continues lead play when it heads to Rochester for a 7:30 p.m. game on Tuesday.
