Beavers fall at home against Wildcats

The Tenino girls soccer team played its non-league finale on Thursday, falling to Crosspoint Christian 2-0 at home.

The Wildcats, who won the 1B/2B state championship last fall, were led to victory by Brooke Berens, who scored once in each half for the game’s two goals.

Despite the final scoreline, Tenino coach Dave Montgomery was pleased with the way the Beavers played.

“We used this opportunity for us to keep sharp and do a little bit of roster rotation to see some people in different spots,” Montgomery said. “Obviously, we would want to win, but given the circumstances, we’re perfectly fine with the result.”

The Beavers were able to generate a few chances offensively, but never found the back of the net.

Graclyn Sweet was able to keep it a close game in net for Tenino, as the sophomore made 10 saves on the night.

“She was lights out between the sticks tonight,” Montgomery said. “That was really cool to see.”

On Tuesday, Tenino (6-4-1, 2-2 1A Evergreen) will begin the second half of its league schedule at Montesano.
