Beavers split doubleheader with Eagles

The Tenino baseball team split a doubleheader against Elma on Friday, winning the opener 8-1 before losing the nightcap 7-2.

Jack Burkhardt threw a gem in Game 1, allowing seven hits and an unearned run in six and two-thirds while striking out six.

An eight-run fourth was more than enough run support for him. Austin Gonia hit a three-run triple, and Burkhardt also drove in a run in the inning.

The offense did not have as much success in Game 2, scoring just one in the third and one in the fifth. Will Feltus drove in both Tenino runs.

With the loss, the Beavers lost the three-game series to the Eagles, and they are now in third place in the Evergreen standings.

Tenino (12-4, 5-4 1A Evergreen) will look to bounce back at Hoquiam on Tuesday.
