A pair of second-half goals not only helped Tenino defeat its rival Rochester 2-0 on Thursday night, but it also helped the Beavers clinch the No. 2 seed out of the Evergreen League.

Tenino won the first matchup in Rochester by the same score earlier this season, but Tenino co-head coach Trevor Fetbrandt said that the Beavers were able to play more to their style on the black turf.

“We were able to possess the ball a little bit more,” Fetbrandt said. “Our ability on the ball presevered tonight, especially as it got to the second half.”

In that half, Kyla Watson connected with Maria Summers on a corner kick, a play that has become a Tenino specialty over the course of the fall.

“We’re a very confident team out of the air,” Fetbrandt said. “It was just another example of a perfectly executed corner.”

That goal came in the 51st minute, and 19 minutes later, Callie Mickelson connected on a penalty kick to double the advantage.

Summers drew the foul in the box to draw the call. Fetbrandt had high praise for Summers after the game, saying she was the best player on the field.

“She just has so much energy and gives us an edge up top,” Fetbradt said.

Feltbrandt also praised his back line of Georgia Gore, Chloe Grayless, Tate Carbonneau, and Abby Robertson, saying that they were “executing on the fly flawlessly,” even as Fetbrandt and co-head coach Dave Montgomery were switching systems throughout the game.

As the No. 2 seed from the Evergreen, the Beavers will host a district tournament game at Beaver Stadium on Nov. 4.

Rochester (5-10-1, 3-4 1A Evergreen) would finish as the No. 3 seed with a win over Hoquiam in its finale on Tuesday, which will send them to the Trico’s No. 2 for its first district game on the same day.
