Five players scored in double figures and not missing much from the field in the third quarter fueled the Wolves to a valiant 71-52 victory over the Tigers on Wednesday night in an Evergreen Conference home tilt.
If Black Hills (13-6, 8-1 EvCo) manage to upend Aberdeen on Friday, it will capture its first EvCo title in five years and be the No. 1 seed in the Class 2A District 4 tournament.
“They’re ready,” Wolves head coach Jeff Gallagher said. “We hit a few more perimeter shots and that spread them out.”
The Morrill brothers of Talon and Quinton combined for seven field goals in a 26-point third period outburst to turn a three-point cushion into a one-sided affair.
Talon finished with a game-high 16 points and Quinton chipped in 15. Jaxsen Beck, one of two seniors on the roster, had 12 points while James Morgan and Peyton Faught ended with 11 and 10, respectively.
Centralia (2-17, 0-9) woke up after a first period slumber to the tune of 22 points in the second. Freshman Braden Baine stepped into the starting lineup and registered a team-best 14 points. Johntah Pirtle and Terrell Sanders scored 10 points apiece.
The Tigers wrap up the regular season with the second installment of the Swamp Cup at home on Friday.
