Bob Mohrbacher commentary: It’s not too late to join Centralia College this fall

Posted

Before I started working in college administration, I was an English teacher for a lot of years. There’s a special feeling that comes from the days getting shorter and school supplies filling store shelves. Our K-12 partners certainly feel it, but we do at the college level as well (though we use fewer pencils nowadays).

Fall quarter is a special time.

Many faculty and staff members are returning from summer break, others have been here all along, and there’s a different energy on campus this time of year.

At Centralia College, we say that anytime is a great time to get started.

That’s certainly true.

Most programs can be started at any time in the year. But, a fall start comes with a lot of excitement and a feeling of starting big.

If you’re on the fence about going back to school, it’s not too late to join us this fall.

Classes start Sept. 18 and our admissions, advising and financial aid staff are busy processing paperwork, getting students into classes and helping students make some of the most important decisions of their lives.

We know it can be overwhelming, particularly for anyone who has been out of school for a while, who has a lot on their plates already with work and family or who isn’t quite sure yet what they want to study. In fact, those three categories describe the majority of our students.

Just know that you’re not alone on this journey.

To make it easier for our new students, there are two one-stop registration events coming up. These are great opportunities for new students to get help with admissions and financial aid, complete placement, learn about programs and schedules, get registered for classes and feel confident coming to campus on Sept. 18.

They will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, and Wednesday, Sept. 6 in the TransAlta Commons.

One added bonus this fall is the new student housing facility opening across the street from campus. There is still some space available, and we would be happy to help you get signed up.

Whether you join us today, tomorrow or five years down the line, we’re here for you, your kids, your parents and grandparents, your neighbors and your friends, and we are prepared to meet you wherever you are in life.

It’s a great time to get started. We hope to see you on campus or online this fall.
