The body of Michael Shufeldt, who died after his fishing boat capsized in the Columbia River last week, has been found, the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office said.

Rescuers recovered the body Monday at about 9:48 a.m. just under 2 miles west of where he was last seen near the mouth of the White Salmon River, officials said.

Six people were rescued after the 24-foot boat sank in unexpected bad weather last Wednesday. Shufeldt, the owner of Reel Deal Fishing Adventures, was guiding the other people on a fishing trip.

Rescuers, including in a Hood River County Sheriff’s Office plane and a Coast Guard helicopter, searched for Shufeldt throughout the day and beyond. Shufeldt was the only person on the boat who did not survive.

A GoFundMe page describes Shufeldt, 26, with a wife and two children, as “a dedicated boat captain” and a “skilled fisherman.”
