Spurred by some clutch wrestling by Liam Land and Race Scalici, W.F. West left the Doc Herren tournament with a trio of champions and a third place team finish with 181.5 points on Saturday in Auburn.

Land won the 150-pound weight class behind a 4-3 quarterfinal win where all four points came in the second period and a 9-7 triumph in the semis thanks to four nearfall points in the third to hang on. He cruised in the finals with a 15-2 major decision.

Scalici needed two third period escapes to claim an 8-6 win in the finals. He also had two pins en route to the 157-pound victory. Graysen Serl (175) had three pins and an 11-4 triumph in the finals.

Elsewhere for the Bearcats, Seth Norby-Betts took second at 126 and five other wrestlers nabbed top-six finishes.

Black Hills takes sixth place at Jim Bair Invite

Fueled by two runner-up finishes, the Wolves piled up 75 points to be the highest area finisher at Saturday’s Jim Bair Invite held at Castle Rock. Roberto Rivera-Jesus bumped up to 120 and was second, losing in the finals via major decision.

He picked up two pins in his first two matches. At 132, Black Hills had top-three finishers in Cash Boos and Rorek Foss. Boos picked up 8-6 and 10-9 triumphs in the quarters and semis, respectively, to place second. Foss lost in the semis, but rebounded with back-to-back wins to take third.

Winlock’s Oscar Silvestre placed third at 106 and Onalaska’s Kyle Brockway finished fourth at 215.

Cano, Rodgers each snare victories at Cougar Clash

Rainier’s Dorien Cano and Rochester’s Maddox Rodgers each faced little resistance on Saturday in Puyallup, claiming individual titles at the Cougar Clash. The Warriors finished fourth in the team race with 85.5 points while the Mountaineers were seventh with 73.

Rodgers recorded three pins at 165-pounds, all in the first period to boot. His pin in the finals only took 35 seconds. Meanwhile Cano, at 175, had a pin and a major decision on the ends of a 7-4 semifinal win that included a second period takedown and third period reversal.

For Rochester, Lincoln Bernard (113) and Liam Walter (138) each placed second after making the finals. Rylan Calica (150) lost in the quarterfinals, then reeled off four straight wins to take third.

Rainier’s Jayden Manibusan (132) and Addison Poole (144) both took second while Blake Roberts responded with two straight pins after losing in the semis at 285.

Tenino, Pe Ell place top-10 on the coast

Both the Beavers and Trojans had at least one wrestler reach the finals at Saturday’s Bash at the Beach held in Ocean Shores, securing both inside the top-10 of the team race. Tenino was seventh and Pe Ell right behind in eighth.

Gavin Maurer (175) and Jaxon Johnson (215) reached the finals for Tenino, but both lost to place second. The duo combined for three pins on the day. Brody Harris (126) and Rafael Ontiveros (165) each recorded third place performances.

Pe Ell saw 190-pounder Blake Burnett get to the finals thanks to two pins, but he was pinned in the final match to place second. Kaiden Coates (138) registered three pins in four backside bracket contests to take third, the same placement as Hunter Harris at 215.
