Rural South Thurston County just got a little bit more accessible for commuters who utilize the Thurston Regional Planning Council’s (TRPC) free ruralTRANSIT bus service.

Two new bus stops will open this month, according to a TRPC news release.

The first new stop will be located in the Town of Bucoda at the intersection of Main and Sixth streets just east of the train tracks.

The second new stop will be the second stop in Tenino. It will be at the Tenino City Park, located at 215 Park Ave. E.

“Until this month, ruralTRANSIT stopped on state Route 507 just outside Bucoda, and Tenino had just one stop,” the release stated.

According to the release, ruralTRANSIT buses have provided free transportation throughout South Thurston County to all members of the public for over 20 years.

Aside from stops in Tenino and Bucoda, bus routes also take passengers to Tumwater, Rochester, Grand Mound, Rainier, Yelm, Centralia and the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation.

Passengers on ruralTRANSIT buses can also connect to other regional transit services at various bus stops including Lewis County Transit, Grays Harbor Transit and Intercity Transit in Thurston County.

In recent years, TRPC has improved service in multiple ways, including offering live bus tracking through a mobile app for ruralTRANSIT passengers.

The free app is called Passio Go. Once downloaded, commuters can find information and live bus tracking by selecting ruralTRANSIT as their transit service.
