Vancouver police arrested a man on allegations of identity theft this week hours after he appeared on a Portland morning news program. Police said his outfit and jewelry on air helped detectives identify him as a suspect.

The man was later identified as Jonathan M. Alvarado. Alvarado allegedly used a fake ID and business credentials from a Chicago company to open a $30,000 line of credit at a Vancouver cellphone store.

Wednesday morning, Alvarado was featured on Portland CW’s Everyday Northwest as a model for a segment on FashioNXT, a Portland event happening now.

In the afternoon, Alvarado was accused of using false documents to secure approximately $13,000 in electronics, including cellphones and iPads. Store security workers recognized the man from previous incidents and found a Facebook page where he was allegedly selling stolen goods under his real name, police said.

Detectives gathered evidence from various sources, including images from the suspect’s social media accounts, and arrested Alvarado when he returned to the cellphone store allegedly to collect more items.

He was still wearing the same clothes and jewelry he wore during his appearance on the local morning news show, police said.
