Tyson Canales was a one-man wrecking crew for the Rochester High School boys basketball team, scoring a career-high 47 points on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to get past Hockinson in a 73-63 defeat.
Most of the freshman’s scoring was from transition, only making four 3-pointers and five free throws. Warriors (0-10) head coach Caleb Sells was more than pleased with the effort of his point guard.
“He was playing within the game,” Sells said. “He was on it; made all the right decisions. Being at this level has been a learning curve and he’s been finding ways to score.”
Still, the Hawks made more plays to come out on top. Tied at 53 after three quarters, they won the fourth quarter 21-11. Rochester had four other scorers combine for 16 points.
“Our defense looked like we hadn’t played a game in two weeks,” Sells said.
The Warriors open the 1A Evergreen League slate on Tuesday at home versus Elma.
