The Winlock boys basketball team snapped its seven-game losing streak on Tuesday, defeating Pe Ell 55-43 on the road.
The Cardinals led by just two at halftime and by five after three, but outscored the Trojans 16-9 in the final quarter to pull away.
Freddy Patching paved the way with 24 points, while Landen Cline added 12 and Jaxyn Pelagio scored 10. Arean Thapa scored eight, and Sam Hunt scored one.
Liam McGrath scored 11 points to finish as Pe Ell’s leading scorer, while Blake Nelson scored 10 and Blaine Howard added nine.
“Tonight just wasn’t our night,” Pe Ell coach Ross Hojem said. “We played them tough in the first half and they made adjustments. We didn’t handle that very well. Our youth and lack of discipline showed. We’ve got a long way to go, but also a lot of things we can be better at. We’ll be alright.”
Winlock (5-11, 3-9 C2BL) will look to make it two in a row on Wednesday at Mossyrock, while Pe Ell (7-8, 4-2 1B CVL) will look to bounce back at home against the Washington School for the Deaf on Thursday.
