1B Football roundup: Cardinals run all over Lions for first win

The Winlock football team got in the win column for the first time on Friday night, running rampant over the Sound Christian Lions in a 56-22 win.

James Cusson and the rest of the Cardinals couldn’t be stopped on the ground. Cusson ran for 366 of the team’s 514 rushing yards, and he also scored five touchdowns on the ground.

All five of his touchdowns came on massive plays, as his touchdowns went 61, 46, 37, 34, and 20 yards.

Landen Cline also got in the endzone twice, and he caught the team’s lone pass attempt, a ball from Cusson that led to a 10-yard pickup.

Winlock led 12-0 after the first quarter, and in the second, they extended it to 28-8 before a late Sound Christian score. The second half was more of the same, as the Cardinals outscored the Lions 28-6 over the final two frames.

Now 1-3, the Cardinals will look to make it back-to-back wins at Oakville next Friday.

Comets smash Acorns

The Oakville football team couldn’t handle perpetual power Naselle, falling 64-6 at home in a league matchup Friday.
