A Lewis County Superior Court judge has dismissed the felony theft case against a former Chehalis veterinary clinic employee accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her employer through falsifying time cards.

Megan A. Tierney, 43, of Chehalis, was charged with one count of first-degree theft in Lewis County Superior Court in September 2019 after Brandy Fay, owner of Newaukum Valley Veterinary Services and River Bend Pet Center, both in Chehalis, reported that Tierney had stolen $25,000 in unearned overtime by falsifying her time cards, according to previous Chronicle reporting.

Tierney was hired in August 2018 as a receptionist and was promoted later to chief financial officer.

Tierney’s case was scheduled to go to trial on Aug. 29, 2023, but on Aug. 24, Judge James Lawler approved a motion from the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office to dismiss the case without prejudice, meaning it can be refiled in the same court of law.

“In the interest of justice, your affiant respectfully requests the court grant the state’s motion for a dismissal without prejudice,” Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Brandi L. Archer wrote in the dismissal motion.

No further explanation for the dismissal request was included in the court documents.

Tierney has been out of custody on unsecured bail since her case was filed in 2019.
