CC Roundup: Blazer women slip past Tacoma on Braun's goal

Avery Braun scored in the third minute and the Blazers made it hold up on Saturday to beat Tacoma, 1-0, in NWAC West Region women’s soccer play.

Braun’s goal came off an assist from Ajae Belliston.

Goalkeeper Brooklynn Alkire recorded four saves to get the win for Centralia, which improved to 4-2 in conference action and 8-2 overall with the win.

Centralia plays at Pierce on Wednesday.

Blazer men fall to Tacoma, 4-2

Carlos Angel Hernandez scored twice, but it wasn’t enough for Centralia College on Saturday in a 4-2 loss to Tacoma in NWAC West Region men's soccer action.

Hernandez scored an unassisted goal in the 18th minute to tie the game, then added a goal in the 60th minute off an assist from Mario Silva Gutierrez that cut Tacoma’s lead to 3-2. 

The Titans’ Lance Nelson, however, scored his second goal of the match four minutes later to salt away the win for the hosts.



Kevin Aguilar and Taylor Pierce added goals for the winners.

Centralia dropped to 2-5-1 (2-9-2 overall) with the loss and plays at Pierce on Wednesday.

Pierce edges Blazers in five sets

Visiting Pierce College warded off the Blazers in a five-set NWAC West Region volleyball match Friday evening in Centralia, 25-21, 20-25, 25-15, 24-26, 15-11.

Claire Kadlec racked up 19 kills for Pierce. Lemasino Faumatu added 18. 

Centralia dropped to 3-3 in conference play with the loss (13-10 overall).

The Blazers play at Green River on Tuesday.
