The Centralia College basketball teams headed north to Des Moines on Saturday, and both the men's and women’s fell to the Thunderbirds.
The women lost 64-58 and the men lost 98-82.
The women’s game was close throughout, but a 23-point third from Highline proved to be the difference.
Ella Baumgartner led the Trailblazers (4-12, 1-2 NWAC) with 17 points, five rebounds, three steals, and three assists, and Marecia Barnett added 13 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and four steals.
Abi Lundblad also scored 13 points, and she brought down 10 rebounds to record a double-double.
The men (2-16, 1-3 NWAC) played better in the second half of their loss, scoring 50 points after the break, but they couldn’t overcome a 16-point halftime deficit.
Kevin Williams finished with 25 points, including five threes, and nine assists while Shay Brannon scored 17 points and brought down six rebounds off the bench.
Clay Morgan added 13 points and five rebounds, and Andrew Collins scored 12 points, grabbed four rebounds, and had three assists.
Both teams will be back in action for a doubleheader on Wednesday at Green River.
