Centralia Downtown Association to host city, port, school board candidate forum

Posted

Voters in the Hub City have more candidates and ballot initiatives to sift through than any others in Lewis County ahead of the Nov. 7 election.

The Centralia Downtown Association hopes to make that process easier. On Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. in the TransAlta Commons at Centralia College, the association will host a candidate forum for Centralia City Council, Port of Centralia commissioner and Centralia School Board candidates.

There are 15 candidates seeking positions in Centralia. Five are running unopposed. Unopposed candidates are all three commissioner positions for the Riverside Fire Authority, Richard Mack, Buddy Lowery and Mike Russow; and two candidates for the Centralia School District board of directors, Maritza Bravo and Andrea Ware.

One school board race includes two candidates, Mandi McDougall and Sarah Holmes.

The next commissioner for district 3 in the Port of Centralia will be either incumbent Peter Lahmann or challenger Dianne Dorey.

Four positions are up for grabs on the Centralia City Council. Candidates seeking position No. 1 are Chris Brewer and Russell Barr. Running for position No. 2 are Kelly Smith Johnston and Joyce Barnes. Vying for position No. 3 are Adrianna Garibay and Kylie Sexsmith.
