Centralia Girl Scout Troop to Hold Soup Sale to Raise Money for Trip

Posted

Members of Centralia’s Girl Scout Troop 41050 are planning a soup sale for Jan. 16.

The goal of the sale is to raise money for the troop to go on a trip in 2024, though the troop members haven’t decided where they want to go yet.

“(They) went to Idaho last summer so they’re setting their sights somewhere a little farther,” said Megan Berry, the troop’s adult leader.

“We were brainstorming ideas for fundraisers in the winter and thought soup would be good,” said Kimberly Brunner, a member of the troop.

The troop has talked to a travel agent and is currently narrowing down potential destinations. Potential places mentioned included Costa Rica; Banff, Canada; Belize; Mexico; Florida; the U.S. Virgin Islands; and the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky.

“(We’re deciding between) out-of-country or in-country with more activities,” said troop member Layla Von Wald.

Wherever they go, the troop members are looking forward to their trip together.

“I enjoy spending time with everyone. We’re contributing to things that will broaden our horizons,” said troop member Olivia Hedgers.

Sussanah Berry, a member of the troop, noted the sale will include soup, grilled cheese sandwiches and the option for a cornbread muffin.

Soup orders will be $8 with each meal, including a 16-ounce takeout container of soup and a side of either an extra large cornbread muffin or a grilled cheese sandwich. A large brownie or a quart of soup can also be ordered. According to members of the troop, the quarts of soup are good for freezing to eat later.

Three types of soup will be available, including smoked sausage minestrone, vegetable minestrone and creamy tomato.

There’s also the option of donating a meal to adults with disabilities. The troop is working with Lewis County Accessible Recreation to provide the donated meals.

A drive-thru pickup will be available at the Fords Prairie Grange Hall in Centralia, where the members of the troop will be making the meals. The pickup will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. There will also be a delivery option available for an additional fee. The Fords Prairie Grange Hall is located at 2640 Reynolds Ave.

Pre-orders are required to purchase a meal. To order a meal, go to girl-scout-troop=41050.square.site or visit the Girl Scouts Soup To Go Facebook page.
