On Sunday, Sept. 1, local musician and Centralia High School alumni Elizabeth “Lizzie” Johnson will once again host the third annual “Sayonara, Summer” fundraising event benefiting the Centralia Band Boosters.

Festivities will kick off at 5 p.m. at Centralia High School’s Tiger Stadium, located at 2526 Mt. Vista Road.

“Join us for an outdoor end-of-summer celebration with live music, food vendors and family-friendly activities like a water balloon toss and a three-legged race,” Johnson said in an email to The Chronicle. “... We’re thrilled to welcome back the same fantastic bands and El Amigo Tienda, whose tacos were a crowd favorite. We can’t wait to bring the community another fun, family-friendly event that supports a great cause!”

Local artists performing include folk music duo Danika Rozhanica and Benny Gilbert, the classic rock band M O N T Y, playing both original and cover songs, and psychedelic dream rock band BonzoBalm.

Admission to the event is whatever an attendee can afford to donate, with all proceeds going to the Centralia Band Boosters to continue funding band programs in local schools. Johnson added, despite rain last year, the “Sayonara, Summer” event still raised more than $1,800.

“The Sayonara, Summer event aims to raise $10,000,” Johnson said.

This year’s event will go on rain or shine. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page at https://bit.ly/3AsDmeu.
