EmbryAnna Schluter, a sophomore at Centralia High School, recently spent a week working as a page for the Washington state Senate at the Capitol in Olympia.

EmbryAnna was one of 19 students who served as Senate pages for the eighth week of the 2025 legislative session, according to a news release from EmbryAnna’s sponsor Sen. John Braun, R-Centralia.

EmbryAnna, 16, is the daughter of Wynne and Jack McHale, of Centralia.

“It was a pleasure to have EmbryAnna here for the week,” Braun said in a news release. “This program is a great opportunity for students to learn about the legislative process up close and personal. I am glad that she had such a positive experience.”

The Senate Page Program provides an opportunity for Washington students to spend a week working at the Legislature. Students transport documents between offices, as well as deliver messages and mail.

Pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process, as well as draft their own bills and engage in a mock session.

Embryanna’s favorite parts of the week were learning new information through page school, experiencing the processes of how bills become laws and “watching floor debate up close and personal while interacting with senators on the floor,” according to the news release.

She plays sports year-round and is highly active in her school’s athletics programs. She also enjoys skateboarding and hopes to pursue a career in law or politics.
