The Centralia baseball team’s first trip to the district tournament in six years ended after just one game, as the Tigers lost to Hockinson 13-3 in five innings in a pigtail game.
The Tigers opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, but the Hawks responded with five in the bottom half and eventually led 9-1 after three.
“We had some balls that we should’ve made plays on early, and they had a decent day offensively,” Centralia coach Jake LeDuc said. “They made plays, we didn’t make plays, and they got us.”
Jon Leedy had two hits, including a double, while Kadin Yeung also hit a double and Jake Johnson added an RBI.
The Tigers will say goodbye to five seniors — Leedy, Mykel Sneller, Brock Boone, Thomas Orr, and Kellen Rooklidge — a group that LeDuc says will be remembered for getting Centralia back to districts for the first time since 2019.
“Those guys worked their butts off,” LeDuc said. “They were leaders. Those five, they don’t say a lot, and they’re quiet kids in nature. But they led by example, and they went out and did things the right way.”
As a group, the Tigers end the season 2-20.
“I’m very proud of them,” LeDuc said. “We didn't quit all year. We played hard, and we got better in spots. At the end of the day, we didn't win a lot of ball games, but the kids played their tails off.”
