Centralia police officers helped resuscitate two men from apparent fentanyl overdoses in separate incidents that occurred early Sunday morning, according to the police department’s daily press log.

First, officers responded to a report of a man who overdosed on fentanyl at 12:35 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Pearl Street.

An officer arrived as CPR was being conducted on the unconscious man and administered the overdose-reversing medication Narcan. Medics arrived and continued “lifesaving measures,” according to police.

The man was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital.

Less than six hours later, at 6:10 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of another unconscious man who had apparently overdosed, this time in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue. The initial caller didn’t know what caused the overdose, but officers later determined it was due to fentanyl, according to police.

A dispatcher instructed the caller on how to perform CPR as police responded to the scene. Upon arrival, an officer administered Narcan and the man regained consciousness, according to police.

“The male was known to law enforcement due to past overdose calls involving fentanyl,” according to the press log.

The man was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital.

Narcan is a brand name for Naloxone described as an “opioid antagonist indicated for the emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose.”
