The Centralia Police Department seized 40 pounds of suspected methamphetamine and 2.4 pounds of meth after a traffic stop on Interstate 5 in Centralia Thursday morning, according to a news release from the department.

According to police, at 8:56 a.m. a Centralia Police Department patrol officer observed a black 2023 Chevrolet Silverado bearing a Washington license plate traveling northbound on Interstate 5. After the vehicle committed numerous traffic infractions, a traffic stop was conducted, according to the news release.

The officer spoke with the driver, described by police as an unlicensed 34-year-old man from Sinaloa, Mexico. Passengers included a 27-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, also from Sinaloa, Mexico.

“The officer noticed several indications of potential criminal activity, which warranted calling Officer (Ruben) Ramirez and K-9 Pax to the scene,” the police department stated in the release. “Upon arrival, K-9 Pax alerted to the presence of controlled substances within the vehicle.”

A subsequent search of luggage in the truck yielded just over 40 pounds of suspected methamphetamine and 2.4 pounds of suspected heroin, police stated.

The driver was detained for investigation of possession and delivery of a controlled substance.

“This is an ongoing investigation and no other information is being released at this time,” police said.
