City of Centralia staff are currently seeking city residents to volunteer for vacancies on various city boards and commissions, according to Centralia City Manager Michael Thomas, who announced the current vacancies at a city council meeting earlier this month.
“If anyone in our community values our history and keeping the legacy of Centralia alive, we have open vacancies on our Historic Preservation Commission,” Thomas said. “Interested individuals can reach out to the (Centralia) Community Development Department for more information on how to join that.”
Centralia’s Historic Preservation Commission meets on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Centralia City Hall council chambers, located at 118 W. Maple St. in downtown Centralia.
Two seats on the commission are vacant. For more information on volunteering on the Historic Preservation Commission, contact the Centralia Community Development Department at 360-330-7662.
Additionally, two seats are vacant on Centralia’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
“One of these volunteer positions is open to a high school student. We have reached out to the Centralia public high school to see if they have any interested parties, but if there’s other high school students that want to be involved or didn’t hear that announcement they can reach out,” Thomas said.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meets on the second Monday of each month at 5 p.m. inside Kitchen No. 2 at Fort Borst Park, located at 2020 Borst Ave. in Centralia.
For more information on volunteering on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, contact Amy Buckler, deputy city manager and parks director for the City of Centralia, via email at ABuckler@cityofcentralia.com.
Anyone interested in volunteering for these vacancies must also fill out and submit an application for boards and commissions, available on the city’s website at https://www.cityofcentralia.com/163/Boards-Commissions.
