Centralia rocked by Shelton on road

The Centralia girls basketball team, a strong defensive squad all year, allowed the most points it has given up this season in a 76-52 defeat at Shelton Tuesday night.

The Highclimbers, one night after a poor offensive showing where they scored 43 in a loss to Rainier, rode the hot hand of Janelle Krise in the first half against the Tigers. The sophomore forward was unstoppable, scoring 13 points in the first quarter compared to Centralia’s 12 to give Shelton a nine-point advantage.

Krise continued her hot shooting into the second quarter with eight more points, and she finished with a game-high 28 points. Shelton tallied 21 points in each of the first, second and third quarters to enter the fourth up 26.

Maddie Ahern led Centralia with 12 points, and Ayana Saucedo and Kendyl Guenther also finished in double figures with 11 each. Makenzie Erickson added seven, and Estella Bussanich tallied five points.

Centralia (10-4, 1-2 EvCo) will host a reeling Black Hills (7-7, 0-3 EvCo) squad that has lost five straight Friday night.
