Centralia snaps league losing streak with win over Shelton

The Centralia boys soccer team is on the board in the 2A EvCo standings, as the Tigers earned their first league win of the year by defeating Shelton 2-0 at Tiger Stadium on Tuesday.

Centralia coach Noel Vazquez said it was nice to snap their three-game league skid, and it was extra exciting because of the circumstances they were facing.

The Tigers were missing two center backs and starting goalkeeper Alejandro Arevalo, and backup keeper Kyson Donahue was forced to leave the game 10 minutes in with an injury.

Adin Stratton made the move from the back line to the net, and he posted a clean sheet and made six saves in 70 minutes of action.

“He had a great game,” Vazquez said. “He definitely made the saves when he needed to.”

Vazquez also gave props to Jacob Silva, Adan Perez, and Adrian Hernandez, who each made adjustments to help fill the gaps on the back line.

“We had a lot of people step up today in different roles,” Vazquez said.

A Miles Paige goal in the 20th minute and a Gabriel Cruz penalty kick in the 30th minute ended up being all the offense Centralia needed to get back above .500.

The Tigers (5-4, 1-3 2A EvCo) will hit the road on Friday, when they will face Aberdeen.

“We’re looking forward to having a good matchup there and hopefully getting another league win,” Vazquez said.
