Ignited by four in the top-five on the boys side and a 1-3-4 top-three for the girls, the Tigers defeated the Bearcats by a 19-39 verdict in the varsity boys race at Stan Hedwall Park on Wednesday afternoon.

W.F. West did not have enough girls for a team score, so Centralia scored the lowest possible points of 15 to win. The Bearcats did see freshman Kate Turner run her first varsity 5,000-meter course in 23 minutes, 11.61 seconds to place second while Azami Bortoletto was fifth in 23:13.94. Shaylee Miles was ninth and Karina Lei took home 14th for W.F. West.

Centralia senior Elyse O’Dell claimed her fourth straight victory in the Swamp Cup and her time of 22:30.70 was the fastest of the four meets. Eva and Liesl Stout were .42 seconds apart in crossing the line while Eden Hansen and Andi Voetberg – two freshmen – rounded out the Tigers’ scoring five.

For the boys, Centralia dominated, powered by Ethan Weiher’s win in 18:47.61 and Evan Thummel’s new lifetime best of 18:49.19 to place second. Seniors Eli Baldwin, Adam Leon and Will Guthrie each ran season’s best times to place in the top-seven.

W.F. West was led by sophomore Connor Clary’s PR of 18:59.28 to finish third while David Moeckel, Adam Butterfield and Mason Ruiz all ran sub-21 minutes to place top-10. Marcello Carrasco placed 11th to round out the Bearcats’ scoring five.
