Centralia Youth Sports (CYS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the students and families of Centralia, has announced the launch of its newest program, the Tiger Baseball Club, which will offer both competitive and development baseball opportunities for youth aged 9 to 14, or grades fourth through eighth.
The program is designed to provide athletes with high-quality instruction, meaningful competition and a clear pathway for growth within the sport, according to a CYS news release.
Initial tryouts for the Tiger Baseball Club are scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, at 6 p.m. at Borst Park Field 9. Registration will take place onsite, and there is no cost to attend. The program will officially launch in the spring of 2026.
In conjunction with the launch, CYS named Centralia School District Athletic Director Tim Ahern as the organization’s director of player development. Ahern brings over 25 years of experience in baseball, including playing at the Division I level at Texas Tech University, serving as an assistant coach at Bellevue Community College, head coach at Sammamish High School, and head coach of the 16U Baden Baseball Club — one of Seattle’s premier summer programs.
“This is a very exciting opportunity for our youth,” Ahern said in a news release. “It’s time to restore Centralia’s proud baseball tradition. Under the CYS umbrella, this program will provide outstanding opportunities for development. Significant facility investments are in the works, and with the backing of CYS, we have the resources in place to prioritize player growth using the latest technologies and methodologies.”
The Tiger Baseball Club represents the latest step in CYS’ commitment to expanding access to high-level youth sports in the Centralia community. Initially focused on providing competitive basketball teams for boys and girls in grade three through eight, CYS has quickly established itself as a cornerstone of youth sports in the community.
Earlier this year, CYS expanded its offerings with the introduction of the Centralia Tigers Thurston County Youth Football League (TCYFL) franchise. This new venture saw teams from CYS competing in the TCYFL 7v7 Football League, where both the fifth/sixth grade and seventh/eighth grade teams achieved winning records over the course of a seven-week season.
Following the success of the 7v7 league, the Centralia Tigers have now filled rosters at all age levels (kindergarten through first grade, second/third, fourth/fifth, and sixth) and will begin their inaugural youth tackle football season this fall.
